Emotion. Too often it sways investing decisions, but not often enough are logic and emotion properly melded into action when markets sell off and skyrocket. Few understand that suppressing emotion and expressing emotion are two sides of the same dysfunctional coin. When people treat logic and emotion as uncompromising opposites, advisors must deal with clients’ troublesome feelings and possible account attrition when there’s a ‘disconnect’ between clients and their investment counsel.
